If there was ever an example of the increasing danger of extremists trying to turn kindness into weakness, and in so doing to tear away the social fabric that helps society function, take a look at this article describing how far-right populist politicians in Italy are trying to demonize and diminish kindness. While there may be valid reasons to support or oppose any particular policy, the underlying mood across our world is gravely concerning. We have a huge job ahead if we are going to prevent this from unraveling into an ugly and lasting divide with serious consequences for global security and stability. Dehumanization is the first step in desensitizing society to tolerate atrocities.
