James F. Smith of the Boston Globe just did a story about a OneVoice Tour through New England that captured the essence of OneVoice rather well.  It also highlighted the importance of keeping the message and movement alive, now more than ever.

Naif Al Mutawa is a dear friend who defines social entrepreneurship.  He is creating positive role models for young Muslims a la Hollywood. Like Marvel and Action Comics before him, Naif created a set of iconic super-heroes – but they each are Muslims who embody one powerful benevolent trait drawn from Islam’s 99 characteristics attributed to G’d.  One has extraordinary kindness.  The other exhibits exceptional creativity.  Beyond cartoons, they now just opened The 99 Entertainment Village!

Some Palestinian intellectuals understand a one state pursuit is not
feasible or advisable bc Israelis will never accept it and bc it
doesn’t even address the core Pal aspirations (ie refugee rights,
Palestinian national symbols/Statehood). Yet they nevertheless find it
useful to advocate it as a tactic to scare Israelis into moving
towards a two state solution.

But the danger with this tactic is twofold. First, Palestinian
citizens will be sold on this grand unachievable take-all vision,
feeding into absolutist impossibilites that people have been sold by
their pandering leadership (on both sides) for far too long. This is
precisely the opposite of what we need: to say to both sides what
needs to be said: peace will not come without necessary compromises.

Second, this plays straight into Israeli suspicions about Palestinian
intentions to reject Israel’s right to exist as the sole homeland of
the Jewish people.

Palestinians who still cling to this phased approach – and Israelis
who feel they can continue the occupation and ‘manage the conflict’ –
need to bear in mind the Gaza tragedy. So long as one side cannot live
with security and freedom, the other side will also face tragic
consequences.

Peace, security, freedom, respect and dignity CAN come to all, and
only to all, people in the region.

Very cool and creative ad from Microsoft – a print ad that looks like a newspaper article that got marked-over… with a handful of words left uncrossed, which you are prompted to follow…

So the other day my 2 year old daughter came barging into my room saying: "quiere nacky, quiere nacky"

translation- my daughter learned the word snack a long time ago, but pronounces it nack, and when she discovered "Kind Snacks: she decided to call them "nacky"

so after asking for nacky, she starts banging on my locked office door where she knows I keep the Kind bars, with increased frustration asking for nacky.

I finally open a bar and hand her a piece, she is satisfied, but wants more, she can eat a whole kind bar quite fast. (did I mention she is 2).  once it is finished she is quite upset, wanting more nacky.

finally I pick up the phone and tell her to ask her uncle daniel for Kind, of course he doesn’t answer but she leaves him a sweet message:

"tio, quiere mas Kind" translation- uncle want more Kind

From my brother’s daughter:

His face is so calm
Full of love and tranquility
How blessed we are
to have warm shelter and peace for him.

How hard and how painful
for the millions upon millions
who lack peace, or water or heat,
who may not have bread or milk to give their children.

How hard and how painful
for the parents who’d lose a baby to a missile
or the babies who’d lose a parent to a bomb
and the nations who’d lose their innocence along the way.

That juxtaposition gives me anxiety:
the peaceful nap of our little baby
against the horrors and hatred brewing around our world,
whether a few blocks up, or 7,000 miles away.

For my baby’s peace cannot be guaranteed
his Spring cannot be counted upon
so long as babies anywhere else in our globe
are suffering, being targeted or killed.

It is for our baby here
that peace must be waged there.
