Daniel Koren, the man behind the “walking contest”
Published under Interesting Random Stuff, Introspection May 27, 2015I admire Koren’s introspective, self-critical, and quirky sense of humor with its very human message. It is very much aligned with KIND’s sense that we tend to be too afraid to stretch a hand or to crack a smile towards strangers. We need to get more comfortable invading each other’s space with some human warmth.
This is a really beautiful story of kindness. Hessed is the Hebrew word for compassion and loving-kindness, and according to Ethics of Our Fathers, is one of three pillars that support the world. For me, Hessed is the essence of Judaism as well as its foundation, and it is what I love the most about the Jewish religion.
A beautiful lesson on treating others with Kindness
Published under Interesting Random Stuff, Introspection Apr 27, 2015Julio Diaz remembers being robbed on a subway platform in the Bronx.
Transcript below:
JD: So I get off the train. You know, I’m walking towards the stairs and this young teenager, uh, pulls out a knife. He wants my money. So I just gave him my wallet and told him, ‘Here you go.’
He starts to leave and as he’s walking away I’m like, ‘Hey, wait a minute. You forgot something. If you’re gonna be robbing people for the rest of the night, you might as well take my coat to keep you warm.’
So, you know, he’s looking at me like, ‘What’s going on here?’ You know, and he asked me, ‘Why are you doing this?’
And I’m like, ‘Well, I don’t know, man, if you’re willing to risk your freedom for a few dollars then I guess you must really need the money. I mean, all I wanted to do was go get dinner and, uh, if you really want to join me, hey, you’re more than welcome.’
So I’m like, ‘Look, you can follow me if you want.’

On the many mistakes that led to KIND Snacks’ success
Published under Entrepreneurship and Management, Introspection, KIND Snacks, Leadership Feb 17, 2015Reflecting on the mistakes I’ve made along the way and the lessons I’ve learned from them.
What makes this article worth reading is not so much the interesting description of the 36-question and eye staring study by Dr. Aron to make strangers fall in love, as the beautiful introspection and reflective analysis of intimacy and trust that Catron brings forth.
