Today, Daniel was interviewed by Fox Business News in a segment depicting how influential the private sector can be in America’s fight against obesity.  Daniel’s interview was part of the ongoing  debate on whether the Government should police healthy eating, and this segment reinforces how influential entrepreneurial solutions can be. Even though Daniel admitted to having a sweet tooth (keep any and all funnel cake sticks away!) it is clear from this segment that KIND’s unbounded devotion to health and deliciousness will be key ingredients in helping American’s maintain healthy lifestyles.

Israeli entrepreneur, Amit Goffer just invented an incredible device to  benefit the disabled population: robotic pants that use sensors to allow paralyzed patients to walk and stand.  The Washington Post reported on the product called “ReWalk,” which will hopefully be for sale after the next coming years of trials and tests.  While there are bound to be many obstacles for the inventors and the early adapters, this looks like a truly incredible opportunity for anyone who is paralyzed and I am excited to see this brilliance at work.

A recent article in the New York Times reported that Weight Watchers has overhauled its old point system whereby an apple was previously counted equal to an Oreo 100-calorie snack pack.  It is great to see that Weight Watcher’s recognizes that all calories are not created equal, and even better to see them encourage members to practice healthy snacking.

The following is an informative article and an important issue.  It is clear from reading Michael Pollan’s ‘The Omnivore’s Dilemma’ that the US Dept of Agriculture and other food regulatory agencies are biased against the small producers and toward industrial manufacturers, many of whom produce stuff you should not call food. But on the other side, an obsession with the locavore movement is probably misplaced as blind support towards ‘organic’ food.

I just had a great lunch with Jamie Oliver at his restaurant on my recent trip to London. Jamie has done amazing work with his cooking talents and has inspired many, many people to eat healthy and enjoy their food and cooking.  We had a great discussion about various ideas for collaboration to fight the obesity epidemic and continue his mission to give back to the food industry.  Check out this video below to see just how inspiring Jamie’s mission is to teach every child about food!

A recent article in the NY Times announced that Mayor Bloomberg is asking for a federal bar on purchasing soda with food stamps.  The argument goes that people are restricted from buying cigarettes, beer and wine, and other potentially harmful substances, so why not prohibit sugary drinks? This effort is just another in the recent string of attempts against obesity and diabetes.

In a recent article in Food Business News, Mintel International recently came out with a report titled “Attitudes Toward Sodium and High Fructose Corn Syrup Reduction,” which proves that companies working to develop products with reduced sodium and less amounts of high-fructose corn syrup are excelling. The report quotes an article in the New York Times which claimed that the amount of American’s avoiding this substance has risen by 13% in 2010 alone.  It goes without saying that the companies who will be most successful will be those that heed the preferences of their consumers.

Check out this great PBS piece featuring PeaceWorks and Daniel’s efforts to end the Mideast conflict with OneVoice! Thank you Fred De Sam Lazaro for showing how entrepreneurship can enhance relations between Israelis and Palestinians (as well as in other conflict regions) while being lucrative as well.  With the persistence of others who share Daniel’s unyielding passion and belief that economic cooperation can lead to peace, we hope to see a decrease in Mideast tensions soon.
